Despite a worldwide effort to eradicate bribery, it is still prevalent in many countries and presents a real risk for businesses. Bribery is a criminal offence and a predicate offence that can lead to money laundering charges. Both offences carry harsh penalties, including imprisonment and unlimited fines. Any substantial gifts or hospitality could be seen as a bribe, including charitable donations. Even small favours that you think nothing of could be perceived as inducements.
