The challenge
With multiple operating businesses across global markets, ABF faced the inherent complexity of delivering compliance training at scale. Different entities had varying requirements, cultures, and risk profiles, yet the group needed confidence that standards were consistently understood and applied.
Traditional compliance training risked disengagement, limited retention, and poor visibility into knowledge gaps. Without stronger engagement and clearer insight, compliance assurance could be compromised.
ABF required a solution that could unify its approach without sacrificing flexibility, combining scalability, relevance, and measurable impact.
The solution
A key driver was to make compliance topics engaging and memorable. The team from Associated British Foods (ABF), led by Dan Wate, worked closely with Skillcast to develop a narrative storyline that would resonate with their diverse workforce.
For each section of the course, learners boarded the Anti-Bribery Express, travelling through environments representing the wide range of businesses across the group.
At each stopping point, learners explored realistic and engaging scenarios designed to bring key compliance principles to life.
Interactive exercises were embedded throughout to check understanding and reinforce learning.
For example, during a visit to “Spice World”, the learner encounters a ringing mobile phone on a table. After opening the message, they are prompted to respond and answer questions based on its content, encouraging active decision-making rather than passive reading.
The result was a highly interactive learning experience tailored to ABF’s business context.

The outcomes
Once the content was signed off, it was delivered on the Skillcast Learning Management System(LMS). ABF was interested in learning about knowledge gaps within their workforce so adopted the Skillcast analytic reporting option.
Enhanced visibility and insight
Through centralised LMS analytical reporting dashboards, compliance leaders gained improved visibility into:
This gave them detailed metrics about the performance of all staff, including:
- Completion rates across entities
- Knowledge gaps by topic or region
- Trends that could signal emerging risk areas
Continuous support and oversight
As individual businesses within the organisation have their own LMS, they chose to host the training themselves. In order for the central compliance team to monitor usage on multiple LMS platforms, Skillcast used Remote SCORM delivery. A version of the course was sent to each company to load onto their LMS.
The solution delivered a more engaging, interactive compliance experience while providing ABF with ongoing visibility and support through Skillcast Remote Service.
Skillcast Remote Service allowed ABF to:
-
Monitor learner progress and completion in real time
-
Identify knowledge gaps and areas for follow-up
-
Quickly update content as regulations or business requirements changed
This meant ABF could maintain consistent compliance standards across multiple entities while benefiting from ongoing support without adding internal resource pressure. The ABF compliance team could access results from multiple LMS platforms in a single central report as completion records were automatically passed back to Skillcast. This is a groundbreaking development that is helping them manage their compliance programmes effectively.
Increased engagement
Interactive and scenario-based learning improved learner participation and completion quality. Training moved beyond passive acknowledgement to active understanding, helping embed compliance principles across diverse teams.
Results - for users
The feedback on the course was highly positive, with 82% of learners ranking the course as four and above out of five.
A very good training in the sense that it encourages an ongoing dialogue about ethics and compliance, that leads to continuous improvement in everyday practices
Results - for the ABF Compliance team
This training has not only improved awareness but has also empowered our teams to apply these principles in real-world scenarios. The ability to track engagement seamlessly across multiple businesses has given us key oversight of our training programme, allowing us to focus on areas where there may be gaps in understanding.
