Enhanced Learning: Elevating Staff Training

Developing a culture of continuous learning is a win-win for both employees and employers, supporting everything from engagement and talent strategies to innovation and compliance.

That might be the aspiration, but the reality can look very different in many organisations.

Senior teams often don’t see L&D teams as strategic partners in many organisations, which means they may be under-resourced and caught in a vicious cycle where it’s difficult to prove the value of training. It can also create a disjointed learning experience for employees who may not engage with ad hoc e-learning courses, especially if these courses aren't aligned with their role or cover too much old ground.

Quick summary:

  • Analytical reports contain data from your training programmes, with valuable insights into employee performance
  • Enhanced learning is a set of tools that help organisations deliver targeted, personalised training, including follow-ups
  • Modern employee training incorporates new technology like automation and AI, like Skillcast’s AI Digital Assistant, Aida
40% of L&D and compliance professionals think their budget will remain static and another 6% think it will decline

With budgets unlikely to budge anytime soon, it’s clear that L&D teams will need to work smarter to create and embed a culture of continuous learning, which is where analytical reporting and enhanced learning come in. Taking a data-driven approach gives you a precise understanding of skills requirements and allows you to deliver targeted training via digital learning solutions that reflect how people learn and interact. You also get valuable insights into learner performance to deliver follow-up personalised training.

Using diagnostics, nudges, AI and a tailored dashboard, these solutions deliver targeted, engaging employee training courses while reducing compliance risks and encouraging innovation.

What is analytical reporting?

Advanced Analytics Reporting
Analytical reporting uses data from your training programmes, such as end-of-module tests, to give you richer insights into employee performance. You can identify specific topics that individual employees or teams are performing well in, underperforming or any areas of concern across your business.

Using data-driven insights, you can create bespoke training programmes company-wide or deliver individual support through enhanced learning tools (more on this below).

Analytical reporting also helps you tackle compliance risks, where a breach could have significant reputational and financial consequences. One example is cybersecurity. You might see that an individual, or a whole team, has performed poorly in phishing attack tests and needs more targeted employee training to increase awareness.

Our recent report, Careless Clicks Report: Could your team spot cyber threats, found:

42%
of UK-based workers don’t have regular training
59%
admit to clicking on suspicious links or attachments

What is enhanced learning?

Following reporting, you’ll be able to identify any knowledge gaps – but what you do with that data is critical. Our Enhanced Learning solution uses innovative tools, including AI, to identify knowledge gaps and make recommendations.

Bite-sized solutions: Automatically send short bursts of information to employees or teams who need it. It could be a simple three-minute video to explain a topic that they found difficult in the initial training. See our compliance bites library

Nudge learning: Deliver automated emails to staff on specific topics or a targeted set of scenario questions to follow up.

Point solutions: Expand on key points in your training programme to refresh your team’s knowledge. It can also be delivered around awareness days, for example, sending your accessibility policy ahead of World Disability Day.

AI Digital Assistant: Integrate an in-course AI tutor who can answer any questions about the training course itself, or your policies and processes.  Learn more about Aida, our Artificial Intelligence Digital Assistant

Adaptive assessments: Fast-track courses use adaptive assessment, where a learner takes a quiz before the training to test their knowledge. The system then creates a bespoke, shorter version of the course that’s fully tailored for the learner, helping to save time and prevent fatigue. They can also choose to do the full version.

Pre-assessments are great because they demonstrate how much knowledge someone has, and whether their previous training was effective or not. It also means they don’t lose time taking courses on subjects they already know about – in some cases, a short refresher will be sufficient, or you might need a more targeted campaign around core topics like data security.

By implementing adaptive assessments, businesses can save employees significant time with training as they’ll be able to demonstrate knowledge with a pre-assessment. It’s a more efficient way of delivering training and we’ve had great feedback from clients who have adopted it.

The technology behind it

Too much data is meaningless if you don’t have the tools to analyse it. We use automation and AI to deliver genuinely valuable insights and help your teams get more from their training programmes on topics like health and safety, financial crime or data protection.

Automation

Automation makes enhanced learning more effortless, saving your team time and ensuring staff are fully up-to-date with policies or processes

We can set up rules where if a learner scores below a certain score, they’re automatically assigned to a specific audience group. You can then deliver custom content to boost their knowledge throughout the year.  Insights are presented in an easy-to-use and accessible dashboard.

AI

Our AI compliance assistant,  Aida, can also be integrated into employee training courses to answer any questions or provide more detail for enhanced learners.  Aida is built using generative AI, but any information submitted (such as internal policies) is held in a completely private environment and can be accessed via an icon within your digital learning platform. It opens up a window where learners can ask relevant questions.

This helps you to deliver an interactive online learning experience that puts the learner front and centre. You can also index company policies, so learners can ask business-related questions.

Tip: Consider building content around Aida by asking learners to pose a question. This helps you create a more guided experience and learners can become more inquisitive.

The benefits of bespoke training

An off-the-shelf solution won’t be tailored to fit your business and policies like your code of conduct can be disengaging if presented in a lengthy text-based document.

You can use bespoke training to not only instil confidence in individual learners but also ensure your training reflects your brand:
  • Get creative with themes, concepts, approaches and structures
  • Create attention-grabbing training courses or policy documents
  • Increase employee engagement
  • Get more positive feedback
  • You won’t have to license content
We’ll provide you with existing courses that can be customised to reflect your brand, and improve employee engagement and learning outcomes.

How to use advanced reporting and enhanced learning

Last year, four in 10 UK businesses experienced a cybersecurity breach – and many of them used AI to carry out more sophisticated attacks. It’s critical that your employees are aware of the latest cybersecurity risks and know what to do if they are presented with one.

Here’s some ways analytical reporting and enhanced learning can help:
  • Continuous learning: With automated training emails and point solutions, employees can develop a continuous learning mindset and keep important information top of mind
  • Improve employee retention: You can offer a competitive training and development programme to improve retention rates
  • Saves time: Teams can save time with training, especially with adaptive assessments, which can ensure only relevant information is being taught
  • Preferred learning methods: Deliver more engaging and bespoke training with short videos or tests via email – reading a long policy document, for example, is not the most effective way to memorise important information
  • Compliance: Reduce compliance risks by ensuring your teams are up-to-date with policies and demonstrate evidence of thorough training programmes
  • ROI: You can deliver a demonstrable ROI because you can quantify training, for example, 10,000 hours of training delivered.
Our Enhanced Learning solution gives business owners a toolkit to provide relevant, engaging training and reduce compliance risks company-wide. It’s especially helpful in highly regulated sectors like banking where employees have more to learn.

Modernise training with AI and analytics

Rising risks and a changing legislative landscape can make it harder to deliver employee training, which is why it’s important to use tools that can be quickly adapted and kept up-to-date.

Aida is a perfect example of how you can integrate AI into a traditional training environment to boost efficiency and customise training for individual learners. It can also be updated and evolved easily, as new legislation comes into effect or your policies change

Skillcast is both a technology and learning provider, so we ensure new training solutions are designed and developed around learners’ needs. Training is moving from static courses to adaptive and targeted solutions that engage employees and deliver value for organisations.
