Skillcast promotes ethical behaviour to our customers and society in general through education, charitable donations and managing environmental impact.

Skillcast Giving Back

We help companies instil ethical behaviour, integrity, and a culture of compliance with standards and regulations in their workplaces, and we help them protect the environment.

We do that by reducing the use of paper and travel. A study in the UK by the Open University found that distance learning reduces energy consumption by 90% and CO2 emissions by 85% compared to face-to-face learning. And those figures were for students in higher education; in the corporate world, the savings are estimated to be even greater.

In addition to contributing with our products and services, we value corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a mechanism to support individuals, the community and the environment. Here are a few examples of us giving back.

Contributions to charitable causes

We regularly organise games, surveys and other promotions and link these to supporting worthy causes. In our Christmas Compliance Challenge, we committed to donating £10 to the Great Ormond Street Hospital on behalf of every participant. At the end of 2023, we conducted a benchmarking survey and donated £950 to Marie Curie, the charity chosen by survey participants.

As a part of our E-learning Trends 2020 Survey, our clients helped us raise over £6,000 for Barnardo's for Christmas. Visit our Barnardo's JustGiving page - we were amongst the top 1% of charity fundraisers in November 2019.

In a client survey, we promised to donate £125 to their chosen charity for every client that completed the survey. We are proud to say that we have raised over £11,500 for the following charities:

We went a step further with the charities closest to our clients' hearts and committed to sponsorship programmes with Guide Dogs, Mind and Macmillan Cancer Support.

This initiative is another example of embedding "Giving Back" in our normal business operations. Similarly, over the years, we have donated over £12,000 related to various charity campaigns and initiatives, including Barnados, Cancer Research, Princess Alice Hospice, Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Malaria No More and Save the Children.

Our Malta office recently underwent a renovation, and we took the opportunity to give to local communities. We donated office furniture and equipment to the following charities:

We also provide a discount on our products and services to our not-for-profit clients.

Fighting bribery & corruption across the globe

Transparency International (UK) has partnered with Skillcast to develop free anti-bribery training resources, including a refreshed version of the acclaimed 'Doing Business Without Bribery' e-learning course, which has become the gold standard in anti-bribery training.

The course is available from Transparency International UK and gives organisations across the globe free access to best-practice training materials. It helps to prevent and resist bribery more effectively and comply with the UK Bribery Act.

With some other notable partners, including the Children's Investment Fund, Coffey and Westminster Foundation for Democracy, we have also produced an anti-bribery course for those working in the charitable sector. The free 'Doing Good Without Bribery' course helps those working in international development counter the risks of bribery and corruption.

Protecting the environment

Skillcast has been awarded the ISO 14001 environmental management standard since 2010, highlighting our commitment to reducing waste management costs and protecting the environment. We have been a certified carbon-neutral company since November 2022 and are committed to our goal of being net zero.

ISO 14001 is the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). It was designed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to help businesses and other organisations to reduce their environmental impact.

Learn more about our accreditation by searching for certificate 14126851 on QMS UK. We recently also donated some London office furniture to the British Heart Foundation as part of our initiative to minimise our environmental impact by recycling.

Living wage employer

We treat all employees, customers and suppliers with dignity, respect and fairness. We offer high standards of working and fair remuneration to all our colleagues. We became a Living Wage Employer in 2019 by ensuring that our direct employees and those in our supply chain receive a living wage. Find out how you can join the movement and become a #LivingWage employer.

We are Climate Neutral!

Although our e-learning helps our clients immensely to reduce their carbon footprint by minimising paper use and travel, we're not resting on those laurels. We appreciate that our operations, including staff, travel, servers, etc., have an environmental impact.

So, we made a commitment to be climate neutral by the end of 2022. As of November 2022, we achieved this target, and Skillcast is now a Climate Neutral company.

We believe that Climate Neutral is the minimum standard for Corporate Social Responsibility. It requires businesses to have a net-zero carbon footprint by balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal.
