Skillcast promotes ethical behaviour not only to our customers but to society in general. We do this through education, charitable donations and managing our impact on the environment.
We help companies to instil ethical behaviour, integrity and a culture of compliance with standards and regulations in their workplaces and we help them to protect the environment.
We do that by reducing the use of paper and travel. A study in the UK by the Open University found that compared to face-to-face learning, distance learning reduces energy consumption by 90% and CO2 emissions by 85%. And those figures were for students in higher education; in the corporate world the savings are estimated to be even greater.
In addition to contributing with our products and services, we value corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a mechanism to support individuals, the community and the environment. Here are a few examples of us giving back.
Contributions to charitable causes
We regularly organise games, surveys and other promotions and link these to supporting worthy causes. Most recently, as a part of our E-learning Trends 2020 Survey, our clients helped us to raise over £6,000 for Barnardo's for Christmas. Visit our JustGiving page - we were amongst the top 1% of charity fundraisers in November 2019.
That was one example of how we've embedded "Giving Back" in our normal business operations. Similarly, over the past five years, we have donated over £12,000 related to various campaigns and initiatives to charities including Barnados, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support, Princess Alice Hospice, Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Malaria No More and Save the Children.
We also provide a discount on our products and services to all of our not-for-profit clients.
Fighting bribery & corruption across the globe
Transparency International (UK) have partnered with Skillcast to develop free anti-bribery training resources, including a refreshed version of the acclaimed 'Doing Business Without Bribery' e-learning course - that has become the gold standard of anti-bribery training.
The course is available from Transparency International UK, and gives organisations across the globe free access to best practice training materials. It will help you to prevent and resist bribery more effectively and comply with the UK Bribery Act.
With some other notable partners including the Children's Investment Fund, Coffey and Westminster Foundation for Democracy we have also produced an anti-bribery course for those working in the charitable sector. The free 'Doing Good Without Bribery' course helps those working in international development to counter the risks of bribery and corruption.
Protecting the environment
Skillcast has been awarded the ISO 14001 environmental management standard since 2010, highlighting our commitment to reducing waste management costs and protecting the environment. ISO 14001 is the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). It was designed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to help businesses and other organisations to reduce their environmental impact.

Living wage employer
We treat all employees, customers and suppliers with dignity, respect and fairness. We offer high standards of working and fair remuneration to all our colleagues. We became a Living Wage Employer in 2019 by ensuring that not only our direct employees but also those in our supply chain receive a living wage. Find out how you can join the movement and become a #LivingWage employer by watching this short video.
We are going Climate Neutral by 2021!
Although our e-learning helps our clients immensely to reduce their carbon footprint by minimising paper use and travel, we're not resting on those laurels. We appreciate that our own operations - staff, travel, servers, etc - do have an environmental impact. So, we have resolved to make our London operation Climate Neutral by the end of 2020, and the whole of Skillcast by the end of 2021.
We believe that Climate Neutral is the minimum standard for Corporate Social Responsibility. It requires businesses to have a net zero carbon footprint, by balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal.
