This 30-minute overview helps staff at FCA solo-regulated firms understand the key steps needed to comply with the Senior Managers and Certification Regime, including preparing a Statement of Responsibilities, obtaining pre-approval for senior managers, taking reasonable steps to prevent regulatory breaches, and understanding the Senior Management Functions and how responsibilities are allocated within the firm.
SM&CR is often treated as something that concerns only the senior population, but the Conduct Rules reach almost everyone and the certification regime affects hiring, appraisal and reference practice. Staff who understand the structure make fewer mistakes in the processes that support it, and the firm gets cleaner evidence when annual certification comes around.
